The Holstein herd consists of 1 300 cows in milk, 375 cows dry and in calf and 1 040 heifers. The health aspects of the dairy herd is cared for by the veterinarian Dr Thys Potgieter from Alexandria. He visits the herd every month to do pregnancy tests and post partum work.

The Mooiwei Holstein herd is a pure bred Holstein herd originated from the Mooivlei Friesian herd that was established in 1936 on the farm Mooivlei in the Queenstown district. Resulting in this herd being over 70 years old.
